I luoghi del cinema in Val d’Orcia. La Toscana è una terra di incomparabile bellezza e non poteva non essere una location da film. Tutta la Toscana ed in particolare la Val d’Orcia è stata il set prescelto da grandi registi per la realizzazione dei loro capolavori del cinema.

La Val d’Orcia offre agli appassionati di cineturismo itinerari e scorci da non perdere per rivivere le emozioni dei vostri film preferiti. Da capolavori del cinema italiano come l’Arcidiavolo o Romeo e Giulietta di Franco Zeffirelli, fino a film internazionali anche loro vincitori dell’ambita statuetta come Il Paziente inglese, Il gladiatore e tanti altri.

Ma scopriamo da vicino quali sono i luoghi del cinema della Val d’Orcia, e se non avete visto i film guardateli e venite in Val d’Orcia a scoprire dal vivo le inquadrature!

Il Paziente inglese (1996) vincitore di ben 9 Oscar è stato girato nella splendida Pienza. Il Monastero di Sant’Anna in Camprena, dove alloggiava il paziente inglese nel film è uno dei luoghi protagonisti del film così come la campagna circostante. La Piazza Pio II, nel cuore del centro storico è stata usata invece per le riprese del ballo che festeggiava la fine della guerra.

Anche Rome e Giulietta di Franco Zeffirelli (1968) è stato girato proprio a Pienza. La festa iniziale dove Romeo si introduce di nascosto è stata girata nel cortile di Palazzo Piccolomini ed una lunga scena notturna è girata tra Piazza Pio II e Corso Rossellino.
Sempre Franco Zeffirelli ha girato il suo Fratello sole sorella luna (1971) a Pienza e all’Abbazia di Sant’Antimo.

La Casa di Massimo Decimo Meridio nel film Il Gladiatore si trova nella bellissima vallata ricoperta di campi verdi di grano, alle porte di San Quirico d’Orcia. E’ facilmente riconoscibile il viale con i cipressi che conduce alla casa, da cui arrivano i soldati che uccidono la moglie ed il figlio del gladiatore. Anche le scene dei Campi Elisi che appaiono in sogno a Massimo Decimo Meridio sono scorci panoramici e suggestivi della Val d’Orcia.

Anche molte scene dei film Sotto il Sole della Toscana girato prevalentemente a Cortona hanno come soggetto le colline valdorciane e le famose curve con i cipressi a Monticchiello.

Una panoramica della Val d’Orcia verso Pienza apre il film Sogno di una notte di mezza estate di Michael Hoffmann(1999).

L’ultima parte del film La meglio gioventù (2003), con la famiglia che acquista e ristruttura un podere è girata in Val d’Orcia, è ben visibile Torre Tarugi, tra Contignano e la Foce e le strade e i panorami verso l’Amiata.

La bellezza del somaro (2010) di Sergio Castellitto è stato girato in Val d’Orcia a Contignano.

2061, un anno eccezionale (2007) per la regia di Carlo Vanzina è stato girato a Pienza.

La mia vita a stelle e strisce (2003) commedia italiana di Massimo Ceccherini è stato girato tra Pienza e San Quirico d’Orcia.

Nostalghia (1983) di Andreij Tarkovskij è stato girato all’Abbazia di San Galgano e a Bagno Vignoni a due passi dal nostro agriturismo Castello di Spedaletto.

E per finire Maraviglioso Boccaccio (2015) dei fratelli Taviani è stato girato proprio di fronte al nostro agriturismo al Castello di Spedaletto.

GUIDED TOUR AT THE CASTLE MILL

We are not only masters in pasta making and millers, we are first of all farmers, and this is precisely what makes the difference. We take care of the entire production cycle of cereals: from the fields to the table. Visit the mill and assist the grain grinding and artisanal production of pasta. The mill is located in the suggestive Castello di Spedaletto, just 4 km away from Bagno Vignoni.

The fresh pasta laboratory is located in the Spedaletto Castle, an ancient grange which in the Middle Ages kept the wheat produced in the Val d’Orcia and offered hospitality to pilgrims traveling along the Via Francigena. During the guided tour of the mill, you will discover with your own eyes how our ancient grains are transformed into pasta, assisting in the stone grinding and bronze drawing. An experience that will show you the world of cereals, flour and pasta as you’ve never seen it before.
To conclude the visit, all you have to do is taste! You can choose between two proposals: the 11:30 visit is followed by a lunch at our very short-chain restaurant at Spedaletto Castle, the 16:00 visit is followed by a tasting in the castle garden.

Montepulciano

Montepulciano is an Italian municipality with 13,673 inhabitants, located in the province of Siena in Tuscany. This town is situated at an altitude of 605m above sea level, between the Val di Chiana and Orcia (valleys).
It has an ancient and long history and its origin dates back to the 4th century BC in the times of the Etruscans.
This town is also known thanks to the famous and well-situated vineyards, from which the Nobile di Montepulciano DOCG wine is produced.
The inhabited town center has the typical “S” shape of a medieval borgo and is surrounded by three circles of walls built around the 14th century. According to the legends of Porsenna, Lucumone di Chiusu it was founded in Etruscan times:
some documents and findings found in the fortress testify that it existed already in the 4th-3rd century BC. During the Roman period it was the seat of the army to defend the consular roads. It was evangelized by San Donato, bishop of Arezzo, in the 4th century.
In the place of the present church of the Madonna di San Biagi, existed the Sancta Mater Ecclesia, in the Castello Pulliciano. In a document of 715 – during the Lombard period – one witnesses its first development: in fact, in some notarial deeds of the archives of the Abbey of SS. Salvatore on Mount Amiata can be found documents, especially one from 806, which, thanks to witnesses who were all from Montepulciano and were all priests, clergymen, a doctor and a goldsmith, testify that even then there was a high civic and cultural life in that place.
In the 12th century the Republic of Siena wanted to subjugate Montepulciano, which until then had been free and rich, and a series of wars began, which the Poliziani family opposed with help from Perugia and Orvieto. From time to time, they also received an eager support from Florence with mixed results.
